This jacket holds a lot of gravitas here at the Ampersand Empire. It was created in 1980, the same year as Mr Pickings and like him was created in the same part of the world. It is inextricably linked with his DNA and that of the shop. Made in the UK as a functional, superbly made jacket to South Shield against the elements. It has all the detail you come to expect of a Barbour jacket, a brass two-way ring-pull zip and studded 'Stormfly' front, two large bellows pockets and two moleskin-lined handwarmer pockets, and the traditional corduroy collar with studs for a hidden throat flap.
A Bedale has 160 parts, including 49 cut fabric pieces, 103 trims and findings and eight items of packaging, and the jacket takes 36 people in the Barbour factory in South Shields to construct. Shape-wise it is shorter, originally to accomodate riding and slightly boxy to accomodate layering in colder seasons.
